The Why Behind E.A.I
My why…your why…
Two years ago, I started to write these Excellence Advantage Inspirations (EAI).
Some people write articles or newsletters to be thought leaders. I wrote it for another reason…for you: my current, past, and future clients and colleagues.
To carry on our conversations..and in a way that others could also benefit from.
As a way to offer ideas in between the times we are together. Perhaps between our strategic working sessions. Other times when we are between one engagement and the next. Occasionally for a time when we haven’t chatted in a while.
I work with so many great leaders and organizations, and I thought it would be fun to cross-fertilize. To share successes (and challenges) that one of you have tackled as inspiration for another one of you who may be facing a similar situation. I wanted to offer a regular way to inspire thinking and your next actions.
Each of you is pursuing excellence in some form or fashion. That is what you all have in common.
Some of you are in the early stages of defining what excellence means for your organization, your department, your program. Others of you have received the highest levels of external validation for organizational excellence.
And while there are some universal dimensions of excellence, excellence is defined by the organization in the context of your customers, your markets, your unique goals and realities.
It is my long-held assertion that excellence creates a distinctive advantage. And that is what I have dedicated my career to. Guiding leaders and organizations to create your excellence advantage. You, your teams, and your organizations are striving and thriving as you seek to create your distinctive, excellence advantage.
And sharing these stories and examples between and among you through these excellence advantage inspirations has been my fuel for keeping this EAI newsletter going. Some of you have been reading since edition #1 and others have joined along the way. All can be found here with recaps every three months. I love hearing from you about what resonates with you as it inspires future topics.
Often when I write, I write as if I am talking to one of you. Sometimes I share a wild success that one or more of you have achieved. Other times I write about a situation that is staring one or more of you in the face (perhaps to shine a light into a blindspot). Often I am combining experiences across organizations when crafting a piece. I love when I am writing as if to you {fill in your name} and it resonates with so many of you.
One of my mentors says: at least 50% of the time you, the reader, should be saying “Yes, I knew that. Great!” And then some fraction of the time, you are thinking: “Good point. I never thought of it that way.” Or, “If that worked for that organization, maybe it will help me in my situation too.”
So that is my aim:
- To share ideas
- To prompt thinking
- To cross-pollinate successes
- To ask questions
- To inspire actions.
How am I doing with that? I’d love to hear!
Do you have a colleague who could also use inspiration? Please share!
